The art of wood mosaic became popular in the sixth century AH during the Seljuk period and reached its peak in the eighth century AH during the Safavid period.

Wood mosaic is very similar to tile mosaic. The similarity of these two mosaics is in the way of working, in both cases, the patterns are formed from the combination of colored parts of the desired material.

The art of wood mosaic was initially used to decorate the surface of tables, sideboards and doors, and only Islamic patterns with 5 colors of ebony, betel, pear, elm, mulberry wood were used, and sometimes inlay was also used for variety.
